NSPMA and the FUTURE

During the past two years, the NSPMA officers and board have been talking about changes that are needed within the organization.  These discussions have resulted in a new direction and emphasis for the organization.  It was apparent that if NSPMA was going to be the organization that would represent K-12 maintenance professionals, Talk quickly turned in action and there have been many positive actions taken during the past year.  The board has completed a comprehensive assessment that has identified areas where improvements are needed.  The board has approved the reduction in the number of board members.  This will be presented as a change to the bylaws at the conference in March.  The number of committees has been reduced by consolidating the responsibilities.  This will make it more practical for the committees to function and perform their respective tasks.  A new website has been created that will be a source of current professional information for both members and potential members.  The Facility Masters Award has been brought back to life and NSPMA has endorsed the program and will be recognizing the platinum level winners at the annual conference.  The Coalition of Green Schools which is part of the USGBC has invited NSPMA to be part of the executive committee.   We now have a national voice in Washington by being part of this organization and attended the USGBC GreenBuild conference in Toronto in October.  The Board is now establishing an action plan each year that will assist in fulfilling the goals in our strategic plan.  This action will define specific responsibilities needed to move the organization forward.

We hope that everyone realizes that NSPMA is changing and needs your help and support during the upcoming years if we are to truly become the national organization for K-12 maintenance professionals.  We hope to see you in Myrtle Beach in March.
